Dowry System

Dowry is the transfer of wealth by the bride's family to the groom's family in the form of cash, movable or immovable property at the time of marriage. Dowry brings a dark cloud over the head of the bride's family. Fathers of poor girls dread their daughter's wedding day and save money for that particular day. Dowry is nothing but a nightmare for women. Every girl feels guilty when she is thought to be a liability. In addition, young women are abducted by in-laws every year for dowry.

Dowry is a punishable offense and anyone who, in any way, tries to support or even conceal the fact must face legal consequences. Both the dowry giver and receiver will be punished under the Dowry Prohibition Act, of 1961.

There is a constant struggle against country dowry. Public opinion and public awareness against dowry in the country are moving forward through various government and non-government institutions.

যৌতুক প্রথা

যৌতুক হল বিয়ের সময় কনের পরিবার নগদ, অস্থাবর সম্পত্তি বা অস্থাবর সম্পত্তির আকারে বরের পরিবারকে সম্পদ হস্তান্তর করে। যৌতুক প্রথা কনের পরিবারের মাথার উপরে কালো মেঘ নিয়ে আসে। গরীব মেয়েদের বাবারা তাদের মেয়ের বিয়ের দিনটিকে ভয় পান এবং সেই নির্দিষ্ট দিনের জন্য অর্থ সঞ্চয় করেন। যৌতুক নারীদের জন্য দুঃস্বপ্ন ছাড়া আর কিছুই নয়। প্রতিটি মেয়ে নিজেকে অপরাধী মনে করে, যখন তাকে মনে করা হয় যে সে একটি দায়। এ ছাড়া, যৌতুক প্রথার জন্য প্রতি বছরই শ্বশুরবাড়ির লোকজনের হাতে তরুণীরা নিগৃহীত হয়ে থাকে। 

যৌতুক একটি শাস্তিযোগ্য অপরাধ, এবং যে কেউ, যে কোনও উপায়ে, সত্যকে সমর্থন করার বা এমনকি গোপন করার চেষ্টা করে তাকে আইনি পরিণতির মুখোমুখি হতে হবে। যৌতুক দাতা এবং গ্রহণকারী উভয় পক্ষই যৌতুক নিষেধাজ্ঞা আইন, 1961 এর অধীনে শাস্তি পাবে।

দেশ যৌতুকের বিরুদ্ধে প্রতিনিয়ত লড়াই চলছে। সরকারি বে-সরকারি  বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে দেশে যৌতুক প্রথার বিরুদ্ধে জনমত ও জন সচেতনতার এগিয়ে চলেছে।
