Transformation of Sentences


Affirmative to Negative:

Rule 1:

Only বা alone এর পরিবর্তে উত্তর বাক্যের শুরুতে None but বসে। আর কোন পরিবর্তন হয়না।

Affirmative: Only he can play good cricket.
Negative: None but he can play good cricket.
Affirmative: Only the science students can apply for the post.
Negative: None but the science students can apply for the post.
Affirmative: Only they can do the work.
Negative: None but they can do the work.

Note: বস্তুর ক্ষেত্রে only এর পরিবর্তে nothing but বসে। তবে বয়সের ক্ষেত্রে বা সংখ্যার ক্ষেত্রে only এর পরিবর্তে not more than বসে।

Affirmative: He is only four.
Negative: He is not more than four.
Affirmative: They have only two cars.
Negative: They have not more than two cars.

Rule 2:

Affirmative sentence এ must থাকলে negative করার সময় must এর পরিবর্তে can not but/ can not help বসে। তবে can not help এর পরে যে verb থাকে তার সাথে ing যুক্ত করতে হয়।

Affirmative: You must yield to your fate.
Negative: You can not but yield to your fate.
Affirmative: We must obey our parents.
Negative: We can not but obey our parents.
Affirmative: You must care them.
Negative: You can not help caring them.

Rule 3:

Every কে Negative করতে হলে Every এর পরিবর্তে There is no বসে + every এর পরের শব্দটি বসে + but + প্রদত্ত sentence এর বাকী অংশ।

Affirmative: Everyone hates a terrorist.
Negative: There is no one but hates a terrorist.
Affirmative: Everybody fears a lion.
Negative: There is no body but hates a liar.

Rule 4:

As soon as যুক্ত sentence কে Negative করতে হলে-

As soon as এর জায়গায় no sooner had বসবে + প্রদত্ত Sentence এর কর্তা বসে + সে Sentence এর মূল verb এর past participle form বসে + সে sentence বাকী অংশ বসে + than + দ্বিতীয় বাক্য বসে।

Affirmative: As soon as he he saw the tiger, he ran away.
Negative: No sooner had he seen the Tiger than he ran away.
Affirmative: No sooner had the boy saw the police, he ran away.
Negative: As soon as the boy seen the police than he ran away.

Rule 5:

Affirmative sentence কে Negative করার সময় উক্ত sentence এর Affirmative শব্দটির Negative রূপ বসাতে হয়। এবং উক্ত Negative এর পূর্বে not বসাতে হয়। বাকী সব থিক থাকে।

Affirmative: He is a good man.
Negative: He is not a bad man.
Affirmative: Rakib is an honest boy.
Negative: Rakib is not a dishonest boy.
Affirmative: This was an extra-ordinary ship.
Negative: This was not an ordinary ship.

Rule 6:

Always যুক্ত Affirmative sentence কে Negative করতে হলে Always এর পরিবর্তে never বসে। Affirmative শব্দটির Negative রূপ বসাতে হয়।

Affirmative: He was always punctual.
Negative: He was never late.
Affirmative: I always tell truth.
Negative: I never tell lie.

Rule 7:

Superlative degree যুক্ত Affirmative sentence কে Negative করতে হলে –

No other + superlative এর পরের অংশ + verb + as + superlative degree এর positive form + as + প্রদত্ত sentence এর subject.

Affirmative: He is the best batsman in the team.
Negative: No other batsman in the team is as good as him.
Affirmative: You are the best boy in the class.
Negative: No other boy in the class is as good as you.

Rule 8:

Than any other/than all other যুক্ত comparative degree কে Negative করতে হলে –

No other + any other/all other এর পরের অংশ বসে + প্রদত্ত verb + so/as বসে + comparative degree এর positive form + as + প্রদত্ত sentence এর subject.

Affirmative: He is better than any other boy in the class.
Negative: No other boy in the class is as good as him.
Affirmative: Dhaka is bigger than all other cities in Bangladesh.
Negative: No other city in Bangladesh is as big as Dhaka.

Rule 9:

Than যুক্ত comparative degree কে Negative করতে হলে –

Than এর শেষের অংশ প্রথমে বসে + verb (tense ও person অনুযায়ী) + not + so/as + comparative degree এর positive form + as + প্রদত্ত sentence এর subject.

Affirmative: He is stronger than you.
Negative: You are not as/so strong as him.
Affirmative: I am taller than you.
Negative: You are not as tall as me.

Rule 10:

As....as যুক্ত positive degree কে Negative করতে হলে –

প্রথম as এর পরিবর্তে not less শেষ as এর পরিবর্তে than বসে।

Affirmative: Robi and Rahat were as strong as Rakib.
Negative: Robi and Rahat were not less strong than Rakib.
Affirmative: He is as good as you.
Negative: He is not less good than you.

Rule 11:

Less...than যুক্ত sentence কে Negative করতে হলে –

Less এর জায়গায় not as বসবে এবং than এর জায়গায় as বসবে।

Affirmative: He is less ugly than you said.
Negative: He is not as ugly as you said.
Affirmative: You are less good than he said.
Negative: You are not as good as he said.

Rule 12:

Too.....to যুক্ত sentence কে Negative করতে হলে –

Too এর জায়গায় so বসে + Too এর পরের adjective/adverb বসে + that বসে + পনুরায় subject বসে। + tense অনুযায়ী can not/could not + প্রদত্ত to এর পরের অংশ বসে।

Affirmative: He is too weak to walk.
Negative: He is so weak that he can not walk.
Affirmative: The sum was too difficult for me to work out.
Negative: The sum was so difficult for me that I could not work out.

Transform the following Affirmative Sentences into Negative Sentences:

1. Hardly had Ram seen me when he called me. 
Negative – No sooner had Ram seen me than he called me. 
 
2. It is unlikely that Rakesh will help you.
Negative – It is not like that Rakesh will help you. 
 
3. Only good girls got good marks.
Negative – None but good girls got good marks. 
 
4. My shirt is loose. 
Negative – My shirt is not tight. 
 
5. As soon as the clock struck ten, we went to sleep.
Negative – No sooner did the clock strike ten than we went back to sleep.
 
6. As soon as he came, it began to rain. 
Negative – No sooner did he come than it began to rain.
 
7. He is too miser to spend any money.
Negative – He is so miser that he can not spend any money.
 
8. He loves all. 
Negative – He does not hate all. 
Or
Negative – He does not fail to love all. 
 
9. Iron is more useful than gold.
Negative – Gold is not so useful as iron.
 
10. He found him dishonest.
Negative – He did not find him honest. 
Or
Negative – He did not fail to find him dishonest. 
 
11. They should attend the marriage.
Negative – They should not fail to attend the marriage.
 
12. She is as dull as an ass. 
Negative – An ass is not duller than she. 
 
13. Ram is taller than Sita.
Negative – Sita is not so tall as Ram. 
 
14. The question is difficult.
Negative – The question is not easy.
 
15. He goes to bed after midnight.
Negative – He does not go to bed before midnight.
Or
Negative – He does not fail to go to bed before midnight.
 
16. Only a little child would talk like this.
Negative – None but a child would talk like this. 
 
17. He is too old to work hard.
Negative – He is so old that he cannot work hard.
 
18. He saw the Taj. 
Negative – He did not fail to see the Taj.
 
19. I was doubtful whether it was you. 
Negative – I was not sure whether it was you. 
 
20. He is richer than I.
Negative – I am not so rich as he.
 
21. As soon as he saw us, he ran away.
Negative – No sooner did he see us than he ran away. 
 
22. He is greater than I.
Negative – I am not so great as he. 
 
23. Great men make a sacrifice when necessary. 
Negative – Great man does not fail to make a sacrifice when necessary. 
 
24. Karim is taller than Sohan. 
Negative – Sohan is not so tall as Karim.
 
25. Gopal is very careful about his studies.
Negative – Gopal is not careless about his studies.
 
26. As soon as we came out, it started raining. 
Negative – No sooner did we come out than it started raining. 
 
27. Only good boys are successful.
Negative – None but good boys are successful.
 
28. He helped me in my need.
Negative – He did not fail to help me in my need. 
 
29. Fortune favours the brave.
Negative – Fortune does not fail to favour the brave. 
 
30. False friends will come to you only when you have money.
Negative – False friends will not come to you when you have no money .
Or
Negative – False friends will not fail to come to you when you have money. 
 
31. She proved to be a faithful.
Negative – She didn’t fail to prove to be a faithful.

Transform the following sentences from Negative to Affirmative:
 
1. They did not find the road very bad.
Affirmative – They found the road very good.

2. He is not so rich as his brother.
Affirmative – His brother is richer than he.

3. There is no smoke without fire.
Affirmative – There is smoke with fire.

4. She is not dull.
Affirmative – She is intelligent.

5. I did not fail to see your brother.
Affirmative – I saw your brother.

6. There is none but believes in his honesty.
Affirmative – There is only believes in his honesty.

7. There is no rose without thorn.
Affirmative – There is every rose with thorn.

8. He will never be forgotten.
Affirmative – He will be always remembered.

9. The knife is not blunt.
Affirmative – The knife is sharp.

10. I am not richer than she is.
Affirmative – She is richer than I.

11. I did not fail to return his book.
Affirmative – I failed to return his book.

12. Old men are not always wise.
Affirmative – Some time old men are fool.
Or
Affirmative – Old men are always fool.

13. There is no rose without fall.
Affirmative – There is rise with a fall.

14. I am not so industrious as he is.
Affirmative – He is more industrious than I am.

15. None but a coward would flee from his duty.
Affirmative – Only coward would flee from his duty.

16. The two sisters are not unlike each other.
Affirmative – The two sisters are like each other.

17. No sooner did he see the tiger than he fled.
Affirmative – As soon as he saw the tiger, he fled.

18. None but Ram was selected in the college.
Affirmative – Only Ram was selected in the college.

19. We should not disobey our parents.
Affirmative – We should obey our parents.

20. He did not fail to join the marriage party.
Affirmative – He joined the marriage party.

কোন মন্তব্য নেই
